I'd like to be the first to say.... WELCOME....
You have a shooty style by using guard from 40k. Cygnar will serve you well in that fact.
The next thing you need to get the ball rolling is a dry erase marker, card sleeves, and the core rulebook for warmachine. Evenually get the cygnar book (so you'll know what to buy), wrath expansion book (battle engines rules), and possibly colossal book (colossals rules) so you'll know what to buy next after you get a feel of the game...
I suggest this site to do research on....
http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com/mkiicygnar
That site will give you a good idea of where to go with your army.
Also I suggest the privateerpressforums.com in the warmachine part of the warmahordes forums.
And I have a site to buy stuff from that's the cheapest I found... I ordered stuff on tuesday got it on friday with free shipping over 50 dollars spent.
http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/discountgamesinc/StoreFront
That site cators to the warmahordes group so P3 paints, tokens, templates will all be there.
Again welcome to our happy family.....
P.S.: Also on another note... Stuart is pretty well experienced in playing Cygnar and can give you pointers.

I'm supposed to be showing Carl and Logan how to play Monday. You should show up if you're free.

I may not be able to go as well if something comes up thursday.... I'm still planning to go though until something comes up.
Gino said he should be there. I'll check with others on what their plans is. I'll try to hold the fort while your gone.
