How useful are the spacewolf wolves (the beasts)?
I was suggesting to a friend to field a couple of squads of wolves to quick rush his opponent, I'm not sure about their stats, but I'm sure they can probably glance tanks and melee reasonably for inexpensive points.
Is there a way to make them better? What combinations are useful?

They are marine stats fours across everything mostly except poor save and can move like beasts being a 1 wound model.
Thunderwolf Calvalry is probably better suited for the battlefield roll your asking about IMO. Along with a Thunderwolf mounted Lord with saga of the bear (Eternal warrior), Runic armor (2+), and either a Storm shield (3++) or belt of russ (4++) and a ranged weapon(like combi-plas or plas pistol etc). Then throw a hammer or fist on him so he can take on challenges. He'll tank for the unit with the 2+ save, 3++ inv and be an absolute beast in Challenges.
