interesting stuff we learned at redstone
1. weapons that wound based on leadership wound against the highest in the squad, not the majority.
2. in close combat if you are engaged with more than one unit, you do not choose which unit to attack, the controller of the model does.
3. also when engaged with more than one unit, you go by the majority ws and toughness of the two units when resolving your attacks.
example: a hive tyrant with toughness six and ws 8 with ten gants with ws 3 and toughness 3 against ten marines, the ten marines have ws 4 and str 4. when the marines attack because the majority ws is 3 they would hit on 3's, same with to wound since the majority toughness is 3 they wound on 3's, and when they wound the tyranids can allocate it to the gants or the tyrant, but when the tyrant and gants attack, they each use their own units ws and str, not the highest.
4. when challenging in a multi-unit combat, you dont choose which unit to challenge, you just say i challenge and the opposing player chooses any elligible model from any elligible unit to accept.
5. weapons that wound on leadership that have a str value still inflict instant death based on the targets toughness, not their leadership.
6. there is absolutely no rule anywhere in the rulebook that prevents you from charging first turn just because you have the first player turn (with the exception of scouting, infiltrating, drop podding, ect)
these are all official rulings by judges and they were all proven true when we looked them up in the rulebook for confirmation, also HOLY WALL OF TEXT BATMAN!

Holy crap that's a game changer. I'll have to be alot more careful in my charges. Know where I can reference this at if it comes up? I've been doing alot of work with my toughness values.Chaos Pat wrote:

Does this defense nerf apply if the Hive Tyrant is involved in a challenge?

in a challenge you always are specifically attacking that model, so this rule would not apply to him, the ws one is pg24, bottom left paragraph, the toughess one is pg25, also bottom left paragraph.

i just reread something, the attacking player does indeed choose which unit to attack, so if those marines attacked the gants, the gants would have to take the saves. but the rulebook states you still use the majority ws and toughness of all engaged enemy models, regardless of what unit you attack.

But the way it works the marines could still wail on the hive tyrant who would have WS3 T3. So the best way to use this is when attacking something tough to multiassault a weaker unit. Naturally they'd probably challenge to pull themselves out, but accepting is probably not a good idea.
