Crusade of Sorrow Empty Crusade of Sorrow

Post  Chaos Pat Fri Jul 11, 2014 2:26 pm

During the latter stages of the 13th Black Crusade, the majority of the imperial forces were focused on the mayhem that the Black legion were causing, and because of this many chaos forces who did not align themselves with the despoiler abused the fact that the imperium left many of its worlds poorly defended, resulting in many imperial worlds being overrun before help could arrive. The imperial world of Vustien had long been left alone by the enemies of the imperium, but unbeknownst to them their world would soon act as a beacon, a beacon that attracts the worst enemy of all.

An ancient evil from the time of the heresy has finally caught the scent of these powerful artifacts, and if this evil should claim them it could prove disastrous to the imperium of man. The imperial denizens of Vustien can only imagine the massive amounts of death that will soon occur on their world. After so many years of peace the people of Vustien will learn that there can never be peace, there can only be war.

The chaos invasion came without warning, and resulted in the death of countless millions of imperial citizens and soldiers. However, even with these massive amounts of casualties, the imperial forces were able to successfully deny the chaos forces a staging area for future assaults, making it much harder to mobilize future assaults on imperial land. With no drop zone the chaos forces were forced back into their ships waiting in orbit.

The chaos forces were not so easily defeated however, and would soon recuperate from their defeat and strike again. Where they would strike next was unknown to all but the chaos forces themselves, resulting in mass hysteria within the cities, and a grim resolve within the ranks of the soldiers

Denied their foothold on the planet below, the chaos forces were forced back into orbit. This caused any successive attacks on the planet below incredibly difficult, as any attack would result in a beachhead assault. Realizing their distinct disadvantage, the chaos forces bribed some indigenous orks to fight for their cause.

With their new found 'allies' the forces of chaos became bold enough to attack the imperial docking area orbiting above the planet, this space station was well guarded, holding most of the imperials elite forces and leaders, as they could better strike anywhere they needed from this location.

This attack was unexpected, the imperial forces deemed the chaos forces defeated and unable to launch such an attack, this assumption lead to the eventual loss of the facility. Even with their most elite soldiers stationed here, the combined might of the orks and chaos proved too much for the imperial defenders. With their obtainment of this facility the chaos forces gained access to many forms to launch swift attacks on the residents below. They finally had their staging area.

With the space station in hand the forces united against the imperium proceeded to raid at will, destroying many civilian cities, as well as eliminating the majority of the worlds non-militarized population. The imperium tried to defend their people, but to no avail, as they could not reliably place their forces where they needed to be, that was until they received unexpected reinforcements.

The eldar knew very well how powerful the artifacts buried beneath the planet were, indeed they knew what sort of destruction would follow if the chaos forces got their hands on them. This resulted in a small craftworld army deploying its forces in support of the imperium. These forces initially turned the tides of the war, with their psykers knowing when and were the chaos and orks would strike, the imperium was finally able to defend themselves.

Sensing the location of the dark artifacts, the chaos forces launched a massive assault on a heavily fortified imperial base, this base held all of the imperiums high ranking officials that had survived the massacre on the space station. The eldar knew this was coming, and as a result the base was reinforced immensely, having the majority of the eldar and imperial forces sent to the base, this proved disastrous.

The eldar did not realize that a large army of fallen dark angels had come to the aid of the word bearers and the orks. The combined might proved far to powerful for the imperial forces to stop, so realizing their immanent defeat the eldar and imperium retreated, hoping to live to fight another day.

The postition of this base is why the chaos forces wanted it, the artifacts they had come for were buried deep beneath the base, and with the base fully under their control, they began digging.

The imperial forces were all but defeated by the time the excavating started, so there was little hope for them to stop the orks and chaos, that was until aid came from an unexpected ally. The tau empire had long since watched this war unfold through the eyes of their pathfinders, and finally deeming it necessary to assist they allied themselves with the imperium and eldar.

The tau forces that arrived were vast, outnumbering all that remained of the imperium or eldar alone, they assumed this would be enough to finally dislodge the enemy forces, so they began one final assault on the once imperial base that contained the commanders of the enemy armies.

The chaos defenders were without true leadership, as all of their sorcerors and lords were deep beneath the planets surface harvesting the artifacts they came for, this resulted in the imperium having a major tactical advantage over the orks and chaos. This final battle lasted for many days, millions of lives being lost, and in the end the tau siding with the imperium proved not enough, as the chaos forces were too heavily entrenched.

By the time the imperial and xenos forces broke through the ork and chaos ranks to reach the altar they were already far too late, the chaos leadership and the majority of the chaos forces were already gone, successful in their mission. The chaos forces had one final parting gift however, they had rigged the space station to crash upon the position of their alter, which is where all the imperial, eldar, and tau forces currently were.

This station crashing killed nearly every single imperial, eldar, and tau soldier that took place in the war, as well as thousands of orks. The orks knew this was coming, and as such did not commit the entirety of their forces to this location. This event eventually lead to the orks conquering the planet, as well as many commandeering many different ships to transport them elsewhere.

While the loss of this planet was of little importance to the imperium, the true depth of their failure was unknown to them, but soon the forces of chaos will unleash their new found weapons upon the galaxy.
