What are the rules for Jaks tournaments?
Is forgeworld allowed and what about Imperial Knights?

the rules for them are posted in the comments on that page, and to clarify knights count as a codex when we say all codices are allowed, hope this clarifies things.

Re: Jaks Tournaments
odd, works fine on my computer but i suppose different computers do different things, these are the restrictions:
• All current Codices and White Dwarf armies will be allowed.
• Escalation and Stronghold Assault will not be allowed.
• Data Slates and Formations will be allowed.
• Allies per the Rule Book will be allowed. Please note, only 2 different factions are allowed per list. For example, White Scars + Ultramarines, or Tau + Eldar, or Imperial Guard + Inquisition. You cannot have more than 2, so no Iron Hands + Space Wolves + Inquisition. Formations count as an ally source.
• Forge World units will be allowed so long as they are neither a Super Heavy nor Gargantuan Creature. The most recent version of the rules must be used. This means not just the “40K Approved” units, but any that do not fall within the above restrictions.
• Forge World Army Lists will be allowed. Experimental rules are not allowed.
• Each player MUST have his pertinent rulebook or digital supplement with him to show his opponent.
Rules Judgments
Rules issues will be dealt with swiftly by a roaming judge. We use a hierarchy for determining rules issues as follows:
1. Main Rule Book
2. Games Workshop FAQs and Erratas
3. IGTC FAQ
4. Consensus of judges present at the time. Please note, that these judgments are final

That shuts down servo skulls and easy access to divination, white scars are happy to see that rule. Why was this rule made? Not complaining just would like to know I believe half of the top 16 list at adepticon used 3 different factions, lowers the power level of the list that we as a local group get to play against, putting us at a slight disadvantage when we go to large events.

because when you can simply pay 50pts to shutdown 2 different playstyles and still take an ally its just dumb, you need to have some sort of flaw in your army for it to be balanced and if every shooty army can simply deny 2 ways to close the gap to get into melee it pretty much eliminates the built in flaws that they have, and frontline gaming made that rule not us, so when the most widely respected group of 40k organizers say it balances the game im inclined to agree.

The frontline gaming guys are pretty cool, but they complain alot pay close attention to the battle reports when their losing most specifically Reecius. They are from California and currently the game is being dominated by east coast players. Every year they complain about something, last year it was line of sight blocking terrain, this year it is inquisition they will always find something. Half of the top 16 list used 3 factions thats not overwhelming. In card games there are 3-5 decks that dominate the game and currently there are 3-5 armies that dominate 40k there is no difference.
Whenever someone says I am trying to balance the game, they are really saying "I dont like something and I want to change it". Notice I did not say because I want to win, I said dont like something which is unfair. I dont care about the quote on quote balance of the game I think its a foolish goal that people should give up on, GW has . The only reason why I care is because I cant practice for the Texas Con 2k event with that rule. I will throw something together I havent played in a tournament in like half a year should be fun regardless.

Firstly you could not practice for it anyways since all jaks tournaments are 1850 not 2000. The line of sight blocking terrain was a completely founded complaint that they had, since every one of our organizers shared that complaint, and all of our organizers agreed that you should not be able to take 3 factions or 2 factions and a formation, or unlimited formations in an army because it is unbalanced, and if 50% of the top players in the country take THE EXACT SAME THING then that should say something about how unbalanced said thing is, and just because GW doesnt care about balance does not mean we should give up on it as well. Also we do not gear our events so that we can practice for larger events, unless specified as a practice event, we gear them so they are the way we want our events to be.
P.S enjoying your imput, and even though these rules are final and will not be modified until a new edition/next year
(whichever comes first) its great to get a outsiders imput, and i hope to see you at the jaks tournament this sunday

I moved the end of your post to the front so everyone understands that I am not complaining, I am giving my opinion on the current state of tournaments, and more specifically how hard it is to achieve "balance". "Balance" is to subjective and is a foolish goal, the true solution is to have 2 tournaments one without restrictions and one tournament where the organizer can attempt to make sure waac players have a damn near impossible chance of creating a list that the casual gamer has no chance against. That way waac players will be happy and non waac players are guranteed a good game with a fighting chance.
I similar to Karl just went through a serious 40k burnout because of the changes but I have accepted them and the game is about having fun with friends anyways but, for tournaments I am Kenpachi so with me its like do I get to fight with the eye patch on or off! Either way I am fighting so Kenpachi is having a good time!
I had quoted Pat alot but this conversation has inspired me to write an article, which I will post on this forum and I would like for it to be on the blog. It is basically my opinion on tournaments and it quotes this article ://www.belloflostsouls.net/2014/04/40k-meta-watch-post-adepticon.html written by Reecius alot.

Re: Jaks Tournaments
Chad, we chose the Bay Area Open format because it was play tested extensively and is backed by a good set of FAQ's. Our style of play around here is more along the lines of "casual" players instead of hard core tournament play. I think the rules make the game more appealing to a wider variety of players and as we try to grow the community that more in line with what we are looking for.
If you are looking for a very competitive opponents, I am sure that Steve, Pat and Alan would give you the kind of game you are looking for in your preparation for TGC. As for myself, I'm a little too rusty to be running with the big dogs. Hit them up on the forum and set up some games. I might also recommend Johnny and Everett from Gamers and Geeks and Carter from TBS! They are all great players.
Hinkel and I are going to TGC this year and we are playing in the Narrative Event. I want to bring out my Raven Guard, my Thunderhawk and other big toys and have some fun! It will be great to see you there again!.

This is true, this is what the forms are for. Post up saying you are gonna be somewhere and then you should have better luck .
