Terrain Set Up Empty Terrain Set Up

Post  AArdvark085 Sun Jun 26, 2011 2:09 am

When I started the forum I promissed myself I would not post lots of articles from other places. I mean heck if you want to read that kind of stuff you should go and check out the blogs for yourself. Then I read this article on terrain. I highly encourage everyone to check it out. Here is the link:

I know this was posted a while ago, but with this in mind, why do we still only use like 3-5 pieces of terrain when you clearly need at least 6 to cover about 25% of the board?

because of the way we play tournaments at our home store. We may need to talk to the event coordinator about making some changes as the rulebook is pretty clear about 25%. The problem comes from determining 25%. Do you fill a 2x2 section? Do you approximate 25%? I believe this would be a good time for the club to step in and decide what a "standard" for us should be. Maybe a topic for Wed night chat or our first club meeting?

It's definitely a good topic for discussion. In the link above, they first fill out a table quarter (the 2'x2' section you spoke of) with terrain pieces, then they distributed it accordingly. Without the 25% terrain, our metagame REALLY favors shooty armies, almost to the point where you might as well not bother taking anything that specializes in assaults.

Why limit it to just 25%? I think terrain should range from almost none to a nearly filled table. Having to adapt to unfavorable conditions will only make better players.

Maybe so, but the way we function right now is by just always using not enough terrain.
