Just as the title says... I'd like to know what people in the club think of as the toughest race out there in 40k as of now? Also on another note... which is the unit/units that aren't vehicles in 40k out of all the races that are tough.

My own opinion I think grey knights, necrons are toughest so far in my opinion.

My opinion on toughest units would be.... Plague marines, Ogryn, Grotesques, Palli termies, mephiston, and lychguard.

I think overall grey knights are the toughest ! They have gay grenades to kill a CC army and shooting for days on top of a ton of really powerful psychic gayness.

As far as toughest unit palladins are pretty tough but I'd say mephiston takes the cake 5 wounds eternal warrior ws 7 BS 5 str 6 t 6 what a beast

I'd have to go for Grey Knights (overall) as well with Plague Marines w/ Plasma running second.

Mephiston is a beast but he can be shot down. I've had 10 man Sternguard pop out within 12 and mow him down. 16 armor saves to take will do that.

Grey Knights... hard to shoot them down... hard to CC them down and what else do you have? Psychic power them down? Nada.

Plague are along the same lines as they are tought to put down in CC (can be done with Terminators or power weapon goodness) but they can also start shooting you with the plasma which is rough.

I think Dark Eldar Wytches are really underused at LW right now. 2 guys both play them and only run one squad in 2k lists. Those things destroy vehicles and tarpit like a mother.

What aspect of tough are we talking? Hard to kill or just hard to beat? Hard to beat: any army that the is played to its strengths. Units that are hard to kill: mephiston is definitely at the top but again this also a "any unit played to its strengths".

As i must say tho space wolves are the toughest of the tough! Razz

Um.... mephiston doesn't have eternal warrior man..... It's just with toughness 6 he is really tough to deal with and can't be instant killed unless the weapon says instant death like a forceweapon with psyker test, huskblade, or boneswords etc.... He is a beast in close combat though and can get there fast with fleet, but it takes one to bring one down in my opinion.

I mean in your opinion of tough as in hard to kill, hard to beat, hard to do anything to.... whatever your interpretation of it would be for this game.

Mephiston can wreak havock, but his inability to take or join a group makes him very vulnerable. Paldins are tough because of the group and wound allocation. A lone paladin cannot survive long without the group.

Grey knights paladins with an apothecary, an inquisitor with plasma syphon, psyoculum and another with null rod. Hardest to kill unit I've used to date. On their own pallies are pretty tough though
