GUILD WARS 2 - Open Beta and Guild Announcements

For all of you MMORPG players out there, several of the Pascagoula SMG people will be taking part in the Guild Wars 2 Open Beta. If you are interested we will have a SMG guild (provided that sits well with the powers that be) and this is the thread that I will try and coordinate its formation from. The server list obviously isn't out yet, but as soon as it is, we will pick one based on what we are looking for, which is a large population pvp oriented server. For those of you who used to play WoW or other MMOs you may find the gameplay of the new Action Oriented MMO to be the next new big thing in mmo gameplay. The game does not have factions ie. horde and alliance, but does use a Server VS Server VS Server gameplay style somewhat similar to the Realm Vs Realm VS Realm of Dark Age of Camelot. Gameplay reminds me of Gears of War mixed with Mario 64, mixed with Band of Brothers, its definitely a fast paced game with NO SUBSCRIPTION FEE!!! You just buy the box and you are done until the next expansion shows up. I'll throw out some videos soon, Hinkel and I will likely be making some videos with commentary of our gameplay experiences.

Yea, I was in the last stress test, it was a blast. The RvRvR server setup will adjust each week so that servers that are winning pvp will move to be matched up against other servers that win in pvp. The server list IS actually out, tho...

Guild Wars 2 Server List and Transfer Rules

Im pretty excited to play this game, as it is TONS of fun and they got rid of the role based combat system (healer/tank/dps), its a blast... Im hoping to get in on some instances this weekend between work and RL stuff...

I will say that I spent about half my time during the betas/stress tests in the WvWvW areas duking it out with all those invaders. I was really impressed by the "end game" content and watching some videos of people who really put some time into learning the skills in depth shows that its truly going to be a strategic battle rather than button pushing madness. It really reminded me of the Realm vs Realm of Dark Age of Camelot, and given that some of their staff is from that title its apparent that's what they were going for. I will say that I haven't been as excited about an MMORPG since the opening days of WoW and the pre-release of DDO, which after playing in the pre-release I promptly cancelled my pre-order.

Also, one of the big things for me was learning about the hidden vistas and all sorts of jump puzzles, which really goes to show you that the designers wanted to give that exploration feeling back. Originally WoW had that for me and then they started removing all of the world bosses and nerfing the mess out of it... At one point I thought there were random treasure chests, to find?

During the last BWE I played in, a friend and I managed to track down one of those hidden chests and (barely) beat the boss. The trip there was a bitch and a half lol, and well worth it. Because it was a BWE and the gear didnt matter (tho it was quite good) it was worth it because it was a blast and it was a challenge. Im super excited about it too, and Im still torn between elementalist and ranger. I dont even know what race im going to play lol. Although Ill be duking it out in the stress test today for no other reason than to get a chance to do so lol.

I wasn't too big on the ranger, but I'm definitely rolling a thief and a guadian. You see I can make a sylvari, which look like elves, then make them ashen and give them red glowing eyes.... BOOM instant drow. lol

I also liked my midget guardian running around named Uncle Scratchy. I keep wanting to play the elementalist, but I haven't done it yet. And the engineer..... I didn't get much time on the necromancer and I'm not sure that one is for me, I'm not big on pets.

Im not big on pets either, thats why I avoided the ranger initially. But the necromancer may choose to not use pets, and still be effective.

That said, during the last stress test, I rolled a sylvary, chose a rocky looking face and pale (ashen) skin and called him "Malachite" you remember him?

The "flesh" guy? lol Yeah he was cool
