Imperial Guard Search Lights

So, Imperial Guard Search lights. seems to be a pretty good debate online. I see that you automaticaly use the search light if you have it when you are in night fighting. ow we all know that if you hit something with a seach light that everyone next round can fire at you as normal. The debate is what happens if you fail you night fighting check with the search light, does the enemy still get to fire at them normally next round without night fighting rules. Thanks

Hey I play with imotekh for necrons which as most people know brings nightfighting rules to the table. Every game I've played with searchlights on the opponent I've let my opponent actually pass the test before auto seeing the searchlight using model.

You either get the lights or you dont meaning, you only have to worry about the bad side if you get the good side.

CKO is correct. You roll to see and if you see it you can spot light the target.

Based upon how the book has it written, they aren't actually turning on the search light until they successfully see the enemy unit. So there is no reason to assume their lights are flashing all over the sky like the bat signal if they didnt see anything to light up.
