ive seen many people use the crusader and a few people use the redeemer but the least played variant is the traditional land raider and I was just wondering why not to many people use them and if they do use them what tactics they use for them just somthing I was curious about.

Chad likes the original Land Raider infact it is Chads favorite, its just that Chad plays Blood Angels and unlike Codex Marines the transport capacity is only 10 compared to 12 meaning no Independent characters can join a squad of 5 terminators or 10 marines. Chad thinks it shines in shooty list or balance list where it can maximize those 2 lascannon shots at different targets, the greatest strength of the basic landraider is that it does its damage outside of melta weaponry range keeping it relatively safe, untill it is ready to unleash its cargo.

I've only ever used the Land Raider Crusader because I've always liked the larger capacity AND the assault capabilities it offers. Frag launchers, Assault Cannon (which went from 3 shots to 4 during the time I played), and the Hellfire bolters were just good. It also came with a Multi-Melta too. All great weapons and all worthwhile for a vehicle I planned to run up to the middle of the field anyways. Plus, between Hellfire's always being able to fire + Machine Spirit, unless opponent blew it up, I had targets to fire at. Shaken never did much.

I like chads oppinion of the classic land raider as for don's crusader tactics I didn't really need to know because they are quite common and they all use the same tactics for them.

I just realized how much of an A-hole I probably just sounded like to don and for that im sorry but I was just trying to imply that all crusader tactics are relatively the same.

No offense taken. It's just true. It only just took making the Assault Cannon better + adding Machine Spirit to Land Raiders to make them that much better for other people to begin start using it heavily. And of course, constantly tweaking certain Marine HQ choices to be useful to take in squads for other marine armies than just Blood Angels or Black Templar.

I think the benefits just outweigh the negatives between Crusaider and regular LR. The original Land Raider was like a mainstay in *many* Marine armies because it an armor 14 weapon's platform. Dual twin-linked lascannons are good, but so many armies have moved to utilizing Drop-pods w/melta-gun guy to get ride of that annoying armored unit that needing two S9 AP2 shots is less good.

For me, I even went to using Assault Cannons on Dreadnaughts over the lascannon once it became 4 shots w/rending. I think Marines just moved from 50% support and 50% assault into a mid-range variant with great assault-oriented units and weaponry is just better. The LR can really only hurt like 2 models per turn, whereas the LRC has the potential to put lots of saves/wounds into a squad. Versatility is just key here I think. If the basic LR could upgrade the Heavy Bolter to Assault Cannon, then I might take it over Crusader.

Chaos land raiders in the codex before current had daemon possession which was just another version of machine spirit. The current codex really hurt the land raiders chances to being in lists for chaos with the removal of that.
