Do bikes actually do anything besides give your opponent free victory points?

They are a good melta gun delivery system at minimum unit size.

Of my research I've done on a whole all bikes marine army. They go by this rule... Shoot the assaulty stuff, Assault the shooty stuff of the opponents army.
