How to double your odds of winning a GT

Post  grots life on Mon May 07, 2012 2:54 pm

If you're looking to outright win the whole ball of wax at a Grand Tournament (what makes them grand anyway? The number of players?) and don't want to build a Grey Knights army, the single best thing you can do is drop 40K and buy a fantasy army. Reading reviews of all the tourmanents, there are always 2-3 times more 40K players than there are Fantasy players. By switching to Fantasy, you are automatically increasing your odds before the first trooper is deployed. Instead of having to best 100 players for top honors, you will only have to defeat 40.

i dont know about that man. the texas fantasy gt's always get 70+ players and from around the world with the lone wolf being the biggest at about 100-110. last year at the alamo we had a club come from new zealand and the leadership 2 guys who have been coming from san fransico for the last 5 years. we cap the alamo gt at 76 because the hall cant support anymore tables. quake city rumble which is basically the big daddy tournament on the west coast gets filled up every year at 120. and it still has a waiting list on the day of the tourney in case people drop from it.

many different things make a grand tournament. the club that puts it on, the way it is scored,( quake city rumble is known as the beauty pagent of warhammer because painting plays a bigger scoreing role their) , how is it supported with prizes( bigger prizes then local tournies and custom made trophies), not to mention the exp of meeting new people from around the nation and world. then there is the road trip with buddies and just the general fun. also with traveling to another city you can go out after the hours of the tournament and explore and take in the scenery of the surroundings. quake city rumble is held at a hall overlooking the bay in san fransico about 15 mins from downtown san fran. the alamo gt is held in downtown san antonio in the historical king williams district. basically about 5 mins from the riverwalk which is full of restraunts and bars.not to mention you are playing against some of the best players in the world acording to rankings HQ.( every big tournament submits the scores to them and they have there own system of ranking each player based on their scores, place in tournament and awards they won)

as you can tell i love traveling to tournaments with buddies! not to mention all the drinking on friday night then waking up with a hangover and playing with it on sat morning ! Razz

I would like to go to a big tournament, but the funds I bring in at the moment, plus the 1 army I do have isn't painted cause I lost my focus and/or hate it, the travelling, and the fact I took this year off is some of the reasons I won't be going this year to any major tournament. Also 3-4 years in the game and still haven't found out what play style I like the best lol, but that's me thinking out loud there.

I can truly see the appeal to go to a major tournament and throw down with the best. *Sigh* This year I'm getting into Warmachine/Hordes. Next year around income tax season I'll jump back into 40k. I should have enough to get whatever army I want then.
