Been my exp that a single vindicator is a bad idea, unless you use it for fire magnet?

In my wolves i have used a vindicator and its an excellent bull dog but it does have short life span but put ur more dangerous units around and make the enemy lest pick and it makes a great catch 22

Overkill is underrated.. I use 3, sometimes to great effect, and sadly sometimes not.

My thoughts are this on it... they either want to shoot at that or the landraider. The raider has a full 8 terminators in it ready to put some hurt out. The vindicator can objective sit or inch forward asking for some fire.

Either way, I think it helps the list against horde armies and draws fire away from the laz preds and the landraider.

Also, current meta thinking... know one really counts on the vindi these days and I think I might catch someone off guard on it Thinking of adding the sternguard back to full squad of 10 in rhino with 5 combis and adding in a squadron of landspeeders. Gonna play test some stuff tonight.

I've actually seen tactics like putting the vindicator on one side of board.... The raider with preds as escort on other side of the board.... Makes for kinda like a kill zone in the middle of the board.

Well ended up winning one and losing one. The list I brought below. I like the way it worked and am thinking that the third auto/laz pred will slightly edge out the vindi. The 8 terminators really did well. I lost 3 to shard carbine rapid fire happiness and then tore threw them. Termies ended up taking out 2 squads and a raider. Happy with that.

Not happy with the Sniper unit. I either need to protect them better (and why?!) or just admit they are a free kill point for very little shooting. I dunno...

Maybe a bait for an ambush?

The loss was to Grey Knights. First time playing them. Tough army.

Kelmar40k, I like your list and I know I'm jumping into the middle of this thread all of a sudden but I would like to say something about my experience with marine snipers ....

Don't go there. Not worth the points almost never (against monstrous creatures maybe). Use your points elsewhere.

If you play SW they do get BS 4 snipers but unless you want to use a full 10 man squad of them "just for fun" they ain't worth it.

If you got rid of your snipers where do you think you could use the points? Better equipment? Another land speeder?

Maybe you could try a bike squad with a PF and 2 melta guns ?

Perhaps the thunderfire cannon?

Just don't like the look of the bikes all that much. If I were to use them then I'd build the list around them rather than toss them in.

Like above only not against them but I would need 3 and techmarines to bolster defenses. Again, would need to design the list around them.

Here is my updated list with removing the scouts and adding in a Combat Squad at the expense of the Laz Sponsons on a 3rd predator. They should make a bit better bunker than the scouts. Now, if only I could find the points for adding a PF to that combat squad.

I just really like the model

So broke down and bought another predator before adding the vindicator (next purchase after the 3 Battlewagons!)

Now, it's paint paint paint to be ready for Jan 21st. 19th legion popping in at Little Wars for the tourney? If so, my list will be completely different. Like WHOA different... I'll bring Footdar... ya footdar... plan on that

On a side note (looks around) after the battlewagons to fill out my Orks to 2k... That will make full on Space Marines and Ork for 2k armies and a table at the house for playing completed with terrain.

I can stop buying new crap after that right?

We got a local tourny on the 22nd, so I know I can't make it. When is the next LW tourney. You guys are a great group to game with.

Eldar can be tricksy but against mostly non-psycics I think I would do alright

Yes they can. Too bad I have an aversion to palying elves of any type.

LW has their 40k tourneys on the 3rd Sat of each month.

@heritic wolf..... You stuck that word tricksy in there and you reminded me of smegal off of Lord of the Rings lmao... I could see smegal saying "Them eldar be Tricksy"... No offense to ya, just an image in my mind.

Man... either my list above sucks that bad or I had an off day from hell on Saturday. It didn't help that the TO didn't show up and they decided to run 3 mission from coastal assault with 2 print outs total that were cut in half. For 2 games I ended up playing half of one scenario and half from another...

Thinking of trickery for my next list. Sigh.

In my opinion I think that Vanilla marines are hard to play in the environment we have now with all these others that's been updated. Vanilla marines are good, but starting to show their age with other newer astartes codexes bringing it cheaper for stuff. You can keep the army and try a different codex like space wolves or blood angels to even the playing field a bit for you.

Thinking about switching out the Landspeeders for an Autocannon Dreadnought for more long range shooting. Not sure yet.

I wasn't suggesting getting rid of your army. Just use the models you like, but with a different codex. All marines just about have the same weapons with some exceptions of course, but if you want to be a diehard vanilla marine player try out new stuff.

I am retooling a bit. I think my last list was balanced. Unfortunately, it really seems that balanced can't win me a competitive game. That being the case, I have changed up the list to the below and will be playtesting it.

Red tac squad is given Tank Hunters. Sicarius will join this combat squad and push forward with the other combat squad for objectives. 6 total scoring units of combat squads all but 2 in lazplaz.

Anything you guys would change? As you can tell, main focus is shooting.

You have so many other/better options? I would rather use a basic librarian or any other "boosting" captain.

as a person who helped run alot of the LGS tournies and GT's where i came from i might make a suggestion on what armies you will meet at any big GT. basically 60% of all the armies will be Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Grey Knights, Dark Eldar, Necrons, and Imperial Guard. most of the blood angel players will be playiner razorspam, 8 dreadnought death company or DOA. most everyone will be using mephiston. space wolves will be running either loganwing or thier version of razorspam. grey knights will be running dragowing, psifleman, or henchman. expect every necron to be using imotep and the ground shaker dude with like a royal court or somthing. dark eldar will be running their raiderspam. and almost every imperial guard will be playing a version of a leaf blower list. the rest of the list will be Daemons(fatecrusher), orks will either be a kan wall or battlewagon list. vanilla marines will be running vulkan drop pod list. the only competitive chaos list is plauge triple defiler list. other then that. you might get lucky and see an eldar, tau, black templar dark angel or nid players. but if i were you i would look at all the above list i named because they are the most popular.

on another note, adepticon just finished and 8 out of the top 16 for 40k were grey knight list...
