Ultramarines and using other Hq's

I have read in a few places that the Ultramarines (the blue guys" can use other HQ's from the chapters that are in their codex like for example Forgefather Vulkan He’stan.

is this true?

yes it is true you can use as a ultramarine player you can use anything from the Codex: Space Marine book... Think of it like a different company... each chapter has 10 companies... I know it's anti-fluffy to do such a thing and for most fluffy players it's blasphemy, but I've seen some Ultramarine conversions of Vulkan online. Also the same can be said for any of the other named characters. I've seen a ravenguard player do a conversion for Sicarious that was pulled off good. It's gotten to the point where all the marines from Codex: Space Marine is just different by color scheme. That's why it's called Vanilla marines.

well I planned on just painting these special hq to match the way they look in the book, and just say they were sent here to the battle today for the expertise.

Fair enough... I seen that done as well online.

i think as a group we should all be fine with that but remeber when we got out of state its all up to the T.O.

Actually it is quite universal if you a model to represent the character than you get the benefits, trust me just ask Sean and his fallen angels who appear from the warp as blood angels, space wolves, salamanders, dark angels, or who ever he feels like.

take his advice over mine he has much more experience in other venues
